Tommy Meers
PROFESSOR
DISTANCE EDUCATION
Tom Meers was born February 17, 1935 in Dallas, Texas. His parents came to know the Lord when Tom was six. At the age of seven, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his own personal Savior. In a few years, his father surrendered to preach and was soon pastor of a church. He met his future wife JoAnn Webb, whose father was also a pastor, at a WBF Top Of Texas Fellowship when they were both fifteen. Tom and JoAnn were married 52 years ago and have two children, Debbie and Brent.
EDUCATION
After high school graduation in 1952, Tom went to Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina where he graduated in 1956, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Religion.
He was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Later, Tom completed certification in Clinical Pastoral Education at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. He remained a Fellow of the College of Chaplains for a number of years.
EXPERIENCE
During his college years, Tom spent his entire summers in revivals, youth revivals, and as a speaker at youth camps. Upon graduation, Tom and JoAnn moved to Amarillo, Texas, where JoAnn’s Dad was the pastor of the Central Baptist Church. Tom was the Associate Pastor there for three years, at which time he was called as pastor of the First Bible Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Seven years later, upon the death of JoAnn’s father, he was called back to Amarillo as pastor of the Central Baptist Church. After six years, he was called as pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas. During this time, he founded and directed the World Baptist Youth Conference. He was also a contributing writer for the Fundamentalist. For several years he conducted family conferences in many churches. He is now the Director of Arlington Baptist College Family & Friends.
Tom Meers joined the faculty of Arlington Baptist College as an adjunct instructor in
the Distance Education Department. Later, he was asked to teach Pentateuch-Genesis and Pentateuch-Exodus on campus. The following year, he began teaching The Life of Christ I and II.
Tom and JoAnn spend many Sundays visiting former students in their churches to encourage them in their work. He is also invited to speak in churches throughout the area. He possesses a great passion for his teaching and a love for his students. |
