BIBLE – MUSIC EDUCATION
Students who desire to teach music in the Christian school or public school setting will be prepared through the Bible and Music Education Program. Arlington Baptist College has been approved to offer an all-level Music Education Program for certification through the state of Texas.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The following information applies to all students interested in a degree with a music major.
ENTRANCE AUDITION
Each student must pass an entrance audition before initial enrollment in the program. The student must select and perform from memory two selections of music of contrasting style.

PROFICIENCY PLACEMENT EXAMS
Students must successfully complete proficiency exams administered by the department. Students having deficiencies will be required to do remedial work. Credit is not awarded for these proficiency exams. Students may be exempt from certain requirements upon successful completion of the exams.
COMPREHENSIVE EXIT BARRIER
To assure that the student is integrating course work in a correct manner, comprehensive exams will be administered orally in the junior and senior years. The exams will cover the areas of music history, theory, sight singing and ear training, conducting, and secondary piano.
RECITALS
A junior recital, MUA 3000, is performed by music students who have completed the 2000 level applied courses. All music students are required to attend departmental recitals.
JURIES
Students are tested on their semester work and preparation during final exam week by a jury composed of music faculty members.
ACCOMPANYING AND SONG LEADING
Capable keyboard students may be required to accompany performances or other functions at the discretion of the department, or they may be asked to supervise beginning keyboard instruction. Students may be required to lead congregational singing in Chapel or another departmentally approved function.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The graduate who completes this program will:

Demonstrate competency in two areas of music useful to teaching in a school and to related functions. |

Have developed a Biblical perspective of the ministry and teaching of music. |
3. |
Have skills needed to teach music on various grade levels in a Christian school. |
4. |
Understand and communicate the place of music in Christian living and worship. |
5. |
Relate the theories of learning to teaching music. |
6. |
Have experience in actual classroom situations. |
7. |
Demonstrate ability to evaluate and revise music curriculum for schools. |
