MUA 1100. CHORUS.                                                                           1 CREDIT HOUR

This is an elective-performing group. Students are introduced to choral music, which will be of use in local church situations.

SPECIAL NOTE:
All private courses listed below require the instructor's permission for enrollment. Course material is geared to the individual student's ability. Each course earns one credit hour. Students majoring in music will elect two courses concurrently from courses for majors to meet two hour credit requirements when necessary. Other prerequisites may apply as indicated.

MUA 1110. VOCAL ENSEMBLE.                                                       1 CREDIT HOUR

Small groups of singers receive performance experience. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: Ability and qualifications to represent the College in promotional tours, if requested.


MUA 1120. INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE                                       1 CREDIT HOUR

This will be a supervised ensemble based on available instrumentation and interest.

MUA 1121,1122. PRIVATE VOICE.                                          1 TO 2 CREDIT HOURS

Building on principles taught in class voice, a student's singing ability is expanded. The student will be exposed to sacred and secular songs of increasing difficulty including oratorio and cantata arias; Italian, French and German art songs; and solo literature appropriate to the local church. Prerequisite: Departmental approval.

PRIVATE VOICE. 1 TO 2 CREDIT HOURS

Continues MUA 1121,1122. MUA 1123, 1124 may be substituted for MUA 1206 with departmental approval.

MUA 1131,1132. PRIVATE PIANO. 1 TO 2 CREDIT HOURS

Skills in scales, chords, and arpeggios are developed. The student will memorize repertoire of progressive difficulty including Bach two part inventions, sonatina and equivalent works from the Baroque through the 20th century periods. Hymn arrangements and sight reading of anthems in open score provide church related skills.

MUA 1203, 1204. CLASS PIANO.                                                       2 CREDIT HOURS

Fundamentals of piano techniques are presented making use of the digital piano laboratory. Concepts and exercises in keyboard techniques and hymn playing are explored.

MUA 1205. CLASS VOICE.                                                                 2 CREDIT HOURS

This course is designed for the student choosing to make music either a career or an avocation. It will train the student in the proper techniques of vocal control, various song styles, and interpretation.

MUA 3201. CONDUCTING.                                                                     2 CREDIT HOURS

This class examines the technical and expressive skills required for choral and/or orchestral conducting. Students demonstrate their practical understanding of score analysis, rehearsal planning, and basic & advanced conducting patterns through a series of performed assignments. Written examinations are included as needed. MUS 3301, 3302.

MUA 3202. CONDUCTING.                                                                2 CREDIT HOURS This course is a continuation of MUA 3201. Prerequisite: MUA 3201.

MUA 4201. MUSIC MINISTRY INTERNSHIP                                 2 CREDIT HOURS

An internship is to provide field-based education that helps students integrate classroom studies (theoretical knowledge) with the actual practicing of ministry. An internship assists the student in acquiring, reinforcing, and refining ministry knowledge and skills.
