ENG 0350. REMEDIAL ENGLISH GRAMMAR. 3 CREDIT HOURS
Emphasis is placed on the logic of English grammar, parts of speech and structural patterns. Basic rules of usage are studied as a preparation for composition. (No degree credit.)
ENG 1303. ENGLISH COMPOSITION I. 3 CREDIT HOURS
English Composition I is devoted to writing expository prose through a process approach. Considerable attention is given to techniques of invention, the importance of multiple drafts and continual revision. Students are given writing assignments to gain practical experience in applying these techniques. Considerable time is also spent on polishing grammar skills. Prerequisite: Qualifying score on placement exam or ENG 0350.
ENG 1304. ENGLISH COMPOSITION II. 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course is a continuation of ENG 1303 and builds upon the concepts of writing that were presented in that course. Students practice writing in specific formats including essays, a research paper, a resume, and a business cover letter. Grammar concepts and writing techniques continue to be taught and practiced.
Prerequisite: ENG 1303.
ENG 2301. WESTERN LITERATURE I. 3 CREDIT HOURS
Representative literary selections from classicism through the Renaissance are studied. Developments of literary traditions and works of major authors are discussed. Emphasis is placed on criticism and analysis through discussion and writing. Prerequisite: ENG 1304.
ENG 2302. WESTERN LITERATURE II. 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course is a continuation of Western Literature I from neoclassicism to the present. Prerequisite: ENG 1304.
ENG 3301. AMERICAN LITERATURE I. 3 CREDIT HOURS
A study of American literature from the Colonial period through the Civil War/Reconstruction era is covered. The course emphasizes the literary significance of selected writers, their works, and the social context in which they wrote.
ENG 3302. CREATIVE WRITING 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course is an introduction to creative writing formats that may include workshop, lecture, and individual conferences. Students will write in two or three genres, including poetry, prose fiction, and other forms.
ENG 3303. AMERICAN LITERATURE II. 3 CREDIT HOURS
A study of American literature from the Civil War/Reconstruction period through the modern era is covered. The course emphasizes the literary significance of selected writers, their works, and the social context in which they wrote.
ENG 4301. BRITISH LITERATURE I 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course is a study of the literature of England from its beginnings to the end of the fifteenth century.
ENG 4303. BRITISH LITERATURE II 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course is a study of the l iterature of England from the sixteenth century through today.
