EDU 3107. VISUAL AIDS/SUNDAY SCHOOL CURRICULUM.  1 CREDIT HOUR

This course is designed to provide enrichment materials for the teaching ministries in our churches. Through lecture, demonstrations, and classroom participation, students learn to construct and use visual aids. A variety of teaching methodologies will be emphasized.


EDU 3300. INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATION/SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN    

3 CREDIT HOURS

This course is designed to introduce foundations of education material to the beginner in teacher education. It includes the procedures and practices of Pre-Christian, Early Christian, Medieval, Renaissance, Colonial, and Modern periods. The educational philosophies and educators of these periods, as well as current trends in public and private education in America, are reviewed. Also, how these philosophies and trends affect learners with special needs, are examined. Field experience is required.

EDU 3303. CHILD GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT.                     3 CREDIT HOURS

Child Growth and Development divides the time between conception and the start of adulthood into five broad periods: prenatal, infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence. Within this chronological framework, the fundamental biological, social, behavioral, cognitive, and cultural aspects of development are woven together in the process of change from one period to the next. Development of children is viewed from practical, theoretical, and scientific viewpoints.

EDU 3305. EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.                  3 CREDIT HOURS
(PSY 3305. THE PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING). 
       

Educational Psychology provides a philosophical and theological framework for effective Christian teaching. The seven elements of the Discipler’s Model serve to bridge the gap between the Christian’s belief and educational theories.

EDU 3306. PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF TEACHING.          3 CREDIT HOURS

Classroom management, teaching aids and methods, preparation of lesson plans, planning based on assessment, and a study of teacher qualities and classroom duties are treated in this course. Observations in both public and private schools will be scheduled. Prerequisite: Education or Music Education majors or departmental approval.

EDU 3307. VISUAL AIDS /INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY.   3 CREDIT HOURS
(CM3 307. EDUCATIONAL MINISTRIES IN THE CHURCH)

The student will be introduced to the biblical purpose for educational ministries in the local church. Emphasis is placed upon the evaluation, implementation, and improvement of every educational ministry in the local church. All activities and assignments will equip the student to effectively oversee educational ministries that affect all ages: infants, children, youth, and adults. Curriculum development, creative teaching methods, and the use of assorted visual aids and current multimedia receive special attention.


EDU 3308. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION                              3 CREDIT HOURS

A study of the disciplines that make up the curriculum for EC-4 grades is made. Other areas emphasized: history of the education of young children; issues in early childhood education; trends in childhood education; state and federal mandates regarding programs for young children; foundations for EC-4 learning environments such as planning curriculum based on play; partner-shipping with families, and appropriate assessment.

EDU 3309. EDUCATION IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL            3 CREDIT HOURS (Replaces EDU 3304. Education in the Middle School)

Foundations for education in the secondary school includes curriculum planning; the philosophy, organization, and management of the middle school grades and the high school grades in Texas; legal and ethical aspects; instructional resources; appropriate assessment and partner-shipping with families. Field experience is required.
