CM 3000. CHRISTIAN SERVICE. NO CREDIT HOURS
All students taking four semester hours or more must complete all junior level Christian Service requirements during the junior year.
CM 3107. VISUAL AIDS/SUNDAY SCHOOL CURRICULUM 1 CREDIT HOUR
This course is designed to provide enrichment materials for the teaching ministries in our churches. Through lecture, demonstrations, and classroom participation, students learn to construct and use visual aids. A variety of teaching methodologies will be emphasized.
CM 3201. CULTS. 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course is designed to familiarize students with the theologies and histories of major cults and new religious movements. The student will study (from a traditional Christian perspective) individuals who profess controversial or competing world-views; and the student will be equipped to share the historic Christian faith with them in love (Jude 3, Ephesians 4:14-15, Acts 20:28-3 1).
CM 3202. TEACHING WORKSHOP 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course gives the student opportunities to put into practice the skills, methodologies, and tools for teaching the very young through 6th grade in Sunday school and other areas of children’s ministries.
CM 3205. SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course is designed to give the student some practical experience in teaching children in a variety of ministry opportunities through a local church. The student will be supervised by an approved WBF church, pastor, and staff. This internship should be completed during the summer prior to the student’s last school year.
CM 3206. MISSION METHODS. 2 CREDIT HOURS
The substance of the course is to review the practical side of church planting on a foreign field. The student will view the varying philosophies of missionary methods of church planting. During the semester the pros and cons of different methods of church planting and church growth will be examined, thus giving the missionary student a spectrum of alternatives for future ministry, The course will accent the indigenous method of church planting and present reasons why modern day missionaries should adopt this procedure in church planting.
CM 3208. SPEAKING TO YOUTH. 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course discusses ways of improving communication skills necessary in capturing and keeping the attention of today’s adolescent. Special attention is given to preparing the message or lesson, using creative teaching methods and developing the skill of a clear communicator. Several opportunities for speaking to peers and youth groups will be available. Enrollment limited to twelve students.
CM 3209. YOUTH MINISTRY INTERNSHIP. 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course offers supervised field education for the prospective youth minister by providing an opportunity to observe and participate in the youth ministry of a local church. Prerequisite: Graduating Senior, Youth Ministry Major, CM 3208, CM 3310.
CM 3210. SPEAKING TO WOMEN. 2 CREDIT HOURS
This course discusses ways of improving communication skills necessary in capturing and keeping the attention of today’s women. Special attention is given to preparing a lesson or presentations, using creative teaching methods and developing the skills of an effective communicator. The course will include opportunities for speaking to peers.
CM 3303. CROS S CULTURAL MINISTRY. 3 CREDIT HOURS
This is a concentrated study of the factors essential to trans-culture approaches to evangelism and servant-hood. This would include basic principles appropriate for crossing cultural barriers. An emphasis on integrity and pursuing excellence will be stressed.
CM 3304. INTRODUCTION TO BIBLICAL COUNSELING. 3 CREDIT HOURS (PSY 3304. INTRODUCTION TO BIBLICAL COUNSELING)
Students will be presented with a thorough understanding of the distinctives of Biblical counseling. Topics discussed will include the history of Biblical counseling, the role of the counselor, the place of counseling in the ministry of the church, and how Biblical counseling, theory, and practice relate to and differ from some of the more common secular models and theories. Part of the course will involve a personal improvement project in which the student will evaluate his/her own counseling qualifications, design a plan for improving some area of his/her life, put that plan into action and then evaluate his/her progress as the course draws to a close.
CM 3306. PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF LEADERSHIP 3 CREDIT HOURS
This course provides the student with a broad knowledge of leadership principles, methods, and styles which are applicable to life and ministry. Attributes of leadership principles such as character, integrity, and honesty are emphasized.
CM 3307. EDUCATIONAL MINISTRIES IN THE CHURCH. 3 CREDIT HOURS
(EDU 3307. VISUAL AIDS/INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY)
The student will be introduced to the biblical purpose for educational ministries in the local church. Emphasis is placed upon the evaluation, implementation, and improvement of every educational ministry in the local church. All activities and assignments will equip the student to effectively oversee educational ministries that affect all ages: infants, children, youth, and adults. Curriculum development, creative teaching methods, and the use of assorted visual aids and current multimedia receive special attention.
CM 3310. PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF YOUTH MINISTRY. 3 CREDIT HOURS
This comprehensive course is designed to survey and discuss various aspects of youth ministry in the local church. Careful consideration will be given to understanding the purpose, personnel, principles, and practices involved in the development and exercise of a Biblical philosophy of youth ministry.
